My object is the sculpture of Athena Parthenos, a 38 foot tall statue that honors Athena as the patron goddess of Athens. The sculpture, created sometime around 447 BCE by Phidias, stood in the Parthenon and was constructed of ivory and gold. Later, in 296 BC the gold would be stripped and the statue then gilded.

I thought that quality of Athena was what the parthenon was named after, but according to the article parthenon the origin of that name is unknown. The Athena Parthenos has been recreated by the Romans and then most recently by recreated by Alan LeQuire which is in Nashville. (See Fig 2.)
